Surgical Procedure

You are ready for the operation and any concerns were clarified with Prof. Arnold in advance.

You will check into the clinic on the day of your surgery, where you will be accompanied to the surgical preparation area to meet your anaesthesiologist. During this preparation phase, you will also be greeted by your surgeon, Prof. Arnold. From the anaesthesiologic and surgical preparation area you will then be taken to the “work shop”, as Prof. Arnold calls his operating room.

A well-coordinated team takes care of the last preparations. One last meticulous check is carried out before the start of the operation. After the team timeout confirmed that everything is in order, the operation begins.
Everything flows quite smoothly, relaxed and versed. You are in in the competent and experienced hands of a team of anaesthesiologists, attendants for surgical positioning, surgeons and assistants as well as technical operating assistants. Established procedures allow for a smooth process: Your knee joint is opened and, using precise templates, prepared for the perfectly fitting replacement. Worn, painful surfaces will be painlessly replaced with perfectly fitting pieces of metal and highly cross-linked polyethylene.

Since we began working with modern methods, such as without a tourniquet, without a peripheral nerve block, but instead with a slowly working local intra-articular Anaesthesia (LIA), the treatment is gentler and we are experiencing fewer complications than in the past.

All in all, this way is much more elegant, gentle and faster. Your safety is our number one priority.

After the operation, you will proceed to the recovery room where you can rest, and soon after, to your room in the nursing care ward. During your stay at the clinic, you will enjoy complete and individualized care so that you are able to return to your daily routine as soon as possible. Naturally we are available 24 hours a day should you need anything. Our care team aims to respond to your needs at all times and to optimally care for you, in a medically professional, yet also humanly compassionate way.
